What is considered End of Life?

End of life generally refers to the period when a person is living with a life‑limiting condition and is gradually nearing the natural end of their physical life. This phase may last weeks, months, or sometimes longer, depending on the individual and their health condition.

 

What is a End of Life (Death) Doula?

Providing non-medical support to someone who is near end of life or at end of life. An end of life death doula is a support, a guide to help with the transitioning and labor of death. Death doulas complement, not replace—medical or hospice care. Their purpose is to bring presence, understanding, and heart‑centered support to one of life’s most profound transitions.

 

What does a End of Life Doula do in Westlock County and area?

A End of Life Death Doula in Westlock County provides compassionate, non‑medical support to individuals and families during the end‑of‑life journey. This role focuses on emotional comfort, spiritual grounding, practical guidance, and creating a peaceful, meaningful experience for everyone involved.

 

What is Metaphysics?
Metaphysics is the most abstract branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of existence. It offers explanations for phenomena that cannot be explained by “natural” science. This science studies humans as a physical and spiritual beings. 

 

What is an Ordained Metaphysical Minister?

An Ordained Metaphysical Minister is someone who has been formally ordained usually through a metaphysical, spiritual or philosophical organization to perform ministerial duties rooted in metaphysics rather than in traditional dogmatic religion. Metaphysical Ministers serve individuals who may not fit into traditional religious structures.

Is a Ordained Metaphysical Minister legally allowed to provide celebration of life services in Westlock County and surrounding areas? 

Yes. a Metaphysical Minister is Ordained and legally allowed to provide celebration of life services in Alberta. In Alberta, the legal recognition of a Metaphysical Minister depends on the organization that ordained them. These are private events and do not require federal government licensing.

 

Are there any legal requirements for a Celebration of life in Alberta?

In Alberta a celebration of life is generally considered a private memorial service and is not subject to the strict regulatory requirements.

 

What things should be in place before the Celebration of Life in Alberta ? 

Before any memorial or celebration of life service can take place, the legal "disposition" of the body must be handled according to the Funeral Services Act and Cemeteries Act- done by a funeral director. A medical Certificate of Death and a Registration of Death form will be provided by hospital / medical examiner. The death must be registered with Alberta Vital Statistics. 

 

Are there location & venue requirements for celebration of life?

If your celebration of life is held outside of a private home or a licensed funeral home, additional permits or permissions may be required depending on the location and local bylaws.

 

    Can a Celebration of Life be held outdoors for "Scattering" ashes in Alberta?

    Yes. If the celebration includes scattering cremated remains on Private Land you must have the permission of the landowner. If the ashes are being scattered on Public/Crown Land scattering is generally permitted on most vacant provincial Crown land and in water, provided it is done away from high-traffic areas and common swim sites. In National Parks, specific federal regulations apply; you must contact the park warden or Parks Canada for permission. 

     

     

    What if I cant afford a service?

    I offer a sliding fee scale for this on a limited income. please talk to me about it.

     

    What if I need a service but I do not want to make it spiritual?

    I serve those who are agnostic or not currently on any spiritual path.

     

    What If I need a service and want religious readings or prayers ?

    I can share readings and prayers from any specific poem, scripture or religion.

    What is an Ordained Metaphysical Minister in Alberta?

    Ordained Metaphysical Ministers can provide ceremonial services for celebration of life, rituals, blessings. They can also provide healing and spiritual support to help individuals navigate life’s challenges and transitions. Ordination can involve specialized training and degree education in metaphysical studies, training includes courses on everything metaphysical, including how to officiate ceremonies, rituals, lead workshops, and provide meaningful spiritual support and guidance.

     

    My Ordained Minister role focus is on offering spiritual celebration of life services and  spiritual support sessions.

     

    A celebration of life spiritual service can be held weeks or months after passing. Crafted to reflect the "vision" of the loved one that has passed. Working closely with you to ensure the event is heartfelt, inclusive, and memorable, offering guidance on structure. Some of the things to think about are things such as where would you like the celebration of life to take place?  how many guests, will it be immediate family? and friends? Will there be food, flowers, videos, photos or music?  Adding or changing ideas to personalize your vision.

     

    What is a Death Doula in Alberta?

    If you or your loved one are faced with illness, you will need support. You will need support in various ways, at various stages from various providers.  As an Ordained Metaphysical Minister and Death Doula I can offer unique non-medical support to you or your loved ones during end of life, offering spiritual presence, support and guidance. 

     

    My death doula role focus is on providing planning, life reviewsspiritual Living funerals & spiritual End of Life Vigils. 

     

    Terminal illness is a hard diagnoses to hear. It is hard on the person receiving the news of illness and also hard on family member's and friends. Those with illness hope to beat the illness, recover and carry on with their lives. The reality is sometimes illness is not curable, sometimes illness or old age takes over the body so quickly that we don't have more time. Sometimes the illness is terminal and their are only months or weeks left to live. Some things to think about a death doulas is not meant to replace medical care, palliative care, hospice care or family care. Death doulas are an additional emotional and spiritual support for for you and loved ones throughout the dying process.
